Duluth Remodel

About This Project

These homeowners in Duluth wanted a redesign of the kitchen to be more functional for a growing family and an updating of the surrounding areas with a contemporary look

The kitchen did not function well and we improved that by redesigning the island to make better use of the space, improving storage options, and installing new, updated appliances. The L-shaped island makes better use of the space and allows for more storage and is painted in a custom color. The perimeter features painted white cabinets by Jay Rambo Co and includes a new professional-style 36” range and stainless hood. Carrara marble was used for the countertops.

The scope of this project was the remodel of most of the main floor interior including the kitchen, pantry, breakfast area, keeping room, bar, powder room, and family room.

The mantel on the double-sided fireplace between the breakfast room and keeping room was replaced with wire-brushed reclaimed barn wood and the brick was painted.

The pantry received custom shelving and a sliding barn door echoing the wire-brushed reclaimed barn wood of the double-sided fireplace mantels.

The powder room walls were finished in woodgrain porcelain tile laid in a staggered horizontal pattern to repeat the kitchen backsplash.

The family room fireplace, widened and faced with stacked stone, was flanked with new shelving. The change from the shallow vaulted ceiling to the barrel-vaulted ceiling is dramatic.

The clients love the fresh approach of the entire project. They particularly like the walnut wood bar top on the island that is recessed into the marble top, and the pantry with the sliding barn door. The space is now functional, attractive and wonderful for young children as well as entertaining friends and family.

This project won the 2016 Chrysalis award for Residential Remodel over $100K category.
